Job Overview

We are recruiting a Volunteer Coordinator for our Rehoming & Fostering Team in Hertfordshire to recruit, support and inspire volunteers, promote Blue Cross in the community and achieve rehoming and fostering service goals.

Contract & Salary

Interview date: 27th – 31st July 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and support a diverse team of volunteers in the local area.
  • Promote the benefits of volunteering, raise awareness of the centre and Blue Cross.
  • Ensure volunteers are fully integrated and welcomed by the team.
  • Build relationships with local communities and partners.
  • Manage volunteer schedules and support, providing guidance and pragmatic solutions.
  • Run recruitment marketing campaigns and manage a bank of volunteer applicants.

About You

You will be an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to actively promote Blue Cross and the benefits of volunteering to a range of external stakeholders.

You will be self‑motivated, forward‑thinking, and enjoy involvement in local volunteering events and national initiatives.

You will work collaboratively, handle volunteer situations with confidence, and maintain resilience in an emotionally charged environment.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrable experience of supervising or managing volunteers.
  • Good experience of running and marketing recruitment campaigns for volunteer roles.
  • Experience of working with local communities and promoting volunteer opportunities.
  • Relationship building with a range of external stakeholders.
  • Experience of actively managing a bank of clients or volunteers.
  • High standards of verbal and written communication.
  • Experience in a client‑focused environment delivering high customer satisfaction.
  • Strong organisational, administrative and analytical skills, including use of computerised systems.
  • Good interviewing and recruitment skills.
  • An awareness of health and safety legislation.
  • Current full driving licence.
  • Ability to demonstrate, understand and apply Blue Cross values.
  • Optional but Not Essential
  • Qualifications in managing volunteers or similar.
  • Training or coaching skills.
  • Presentation skills.
  • Experience working with animals and knowledge of animal welfare.
  • Event organising skills.
  • Understanding of safeguarding issues.
