We’re recruiting four Standby Pet Welfare Assistants for onsite animal care at our Hertfordshire rehoming centre. You will manage the preparation stage for pets, including assessments, rehabilitation plans, and ensuring readiness for adoption. You will also conduct meetings with owners, record information, and collaborate with the Adoptions Coordinator to provide adoptees with essential guidance.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure welfare standards are met and rehabilitation plans are followed.
  • Conduct assessments for behavioural or veterinary issues.
  • Record and complete paperwork for each pet.
  • Provide in‑person or virtual advice to adoptees on ongoing care and training.

About You:

A skilled animal handler and assessor who is intuitive, empathetic, and focused on animal welfare, with prior experience in a similar animal‑related environment. You are self‑motivated, forward‑thinking, collaborative, communicative, adaptable, and capable of handling emotionally charged situations with resilience and emotional intelligence.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience working or volunteering with domestic animals or in an animal welfare environment.
  • Previous work in a customer‑focused environment with high customer satisfaction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organisational and administrative skills, including use of computerised systems.
  • Current full driving licence.

Additional (Not Essential):

  • Qualification or experience in animal behaviour or animal training.
  • Experience of cash handling.
  • Experience working to strict health and safety procedures.
  • Understanding of safeguarding issues.
