Role Summary
We are recruiting an Adoptions Coordinator for our Rehoming & Fostering team at our Rehoming centre in Hertfordshire.
This key role at Blue Cross ensures pets in our care are matched with new owners and rehomed quickly, reducing time with us and allowing us to help more pets.
Interview date: 27th - 31st July 2026.
Key Responsibilities
As an Adoptions Coordinator, you will ensure the adoption process is thorough, efficient and follows internal guidelines, moving assessed pets to new homes as quickly as possible.
Working closely with Pet Welfare Assistants at the Centre and other Adoptions and Admissions Coordinators across the Rehoming and Fostering network, you will make key decisions, proactively manage our pool of homes, match each pet with the perfect adopter, and provide post-adoption support when required.
This permanent role consists of 37.5 hours per week, including 1 in 3 weekends.
When working a weekend, the Thursday and following Monday will be rest days.

About You
You will be an excellent communicator and have experience of working in a client-facing role in a similar, animal-related environment.
You will have good knowledge of pet welfare, a requirement for ensuring successful adoption.
You will assimilate information quickly, record accurately, and conduct conversations with clients and stakeholders.
With a client-focused approach, you can make decisions under pressure, sometimes without input from others.
You possess a problem-solving mindset, prioritise decisions on pet adoption, and thrive in an emotionally charged environment.
You will possess emotional intelligence, empathy, bounce-back ability, and resilience.
- Knowledge, Skills, And Experience
- Demonstrable understanding and experience of matching considerations for pets and homes.
- Experience working or volunteering in a pet welfare role.
- Working knowledge of cat, dog, and small animal behaviour.
- Significant experience delivering high-level customer service in a fast-paced, often emotional environment.
- Good questioning skills, able to gather information and distil important points.
- Experience building relationships and rapport with customers.
- High standard of verbal and written communication.
- Good literacy and numerical skills.
- Proven decision-making ability.
- Strong administration skills, including the use of computerised systems.
- Current full driving licence.
- Experience working with volunteers (optional).
- Client relationship management experience (optional).
- Understanding of safeguarding issues (optional).
