Role Overview

Blue Cross is one of the UK’s leading animal welfare organisations for animals. We are a charity that supports sick, injured, and homeless pets and care for more than 40,000 animals every year through our rehoming, veterinary and education programmes. The role offers an 18-month development programme for graduate vets, focused on providing high standard of care and diverse medical and surgical cases.

Responsibilities

  • Run own consult list, seeing a wide variety of cases
  • Manage a busy hospital caseload with training in inpatient care
  • Receive tailored training in surgery and diagnostic procedures
  • Receive adequate training in emergency work, before being introduced to out‑of‑hours rota
  • Take an active role in monthly team development days, including service reduction to emergency‑only, cadaver training sessions, and external lectures
  • Provide a much‑appreciated service to pet owners in need

You will be a practical, pragmatic individual who enjoys working in a team and is committed to delivering excellent customer care for patients and their owners.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Graduated from veterinary school and MRCVS registered by September 2026
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Demonstrable teamwork and communication skills

Desirable Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Relevant UK small animal practice experience
  • Charity EMS experience
