We are looking for a confident driver who knows their way around London, to join our Veterinary Team as a Veterinary Hospital Driver. You will play a crucial role by providing essential transport services in one of our Blue Cross ambulances.
More about the role
Our Hospital Drivers provide a pet transport service by collecting and returning sick and injured pets for owners who are unable to bring them to the hospitals themselves through illness, age or disability. You don’t have to have any professional experience of animal handling as basic training will be provided but personal experience of caring for animals would be advantageous.
In the role, you are responsible for booking appointments for approved clients using our booking framework and planning your route accordingly. This role covers inter-hospital transfers across our other sites in London, but you will also be expected to transport animals to and from our rehoming centres such as Burford and Southampton.
You will need to ensure regular vehicle checks before travelling to ensure yours and the animals safety when travelling. There are regular cleaning schedules to follow and you will also organise any vehicle maintenance as required.
We have a hospital driver email which you will be a part of so you will use this email inbox to manage booking appointments for approved clients and communicating the application process to new, potential clients. You will also process payments for appointments and procedures which involves cash handling and reconciliation.
You may also be required to provide reception support, which can include greeting visitors and clients, answering and directing phone calls, handling enquiries via email and maintaining a welcoming front desk area. Full training will be provided to ensure you feel confident in carrying out these tasks.
About you
Our Hospital Drivers play a huge part of helping our clients and their beloved pets so being kind, courteous and understanding really matters in this role.
This role would suit a comfortable driver who can keep on top of paperwork such as journey records and mileage. No experience in this role is necessary however a full UK driving licence is essential.
Your days will be varied, working with different teams in different counties so being a good communicator is the key to success as a Veterinary Hospital Driver.
While you’ll often be out and about working independently, you’ll never be on your own as you’ll be part of a friendly, supportive team that always puts the animals we care for, and the people who love them at the heart of everything we do.
Knowledge, skills, and experience:
- Valid, full UK driving licence
- Customer-facing experience
- Experience caring for or handling animals
It would be great (but not essential) if you also had:
- Knowledge of the London area and road system
- Understanding of confidentiality and data protection
- Interacting with a wide variety of people
- Experienced in using IT functions (Word, Outlook, Excel)
