Blue Arrow is recruiting for a reliable and proactive Caretaker to join our client's dedicated team in Reading. This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of a well-maintained residential setting, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
The Role
You will be responsible for delivering comprehensive maintenance and facilities support across the site, ensuring buildings, equipment, and grounds are kept in excellent condition. This is a hands-on position suited to someone who is equally comfortable using tools as they are managing compliance checks and records.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general maintenance, repairs, and DIY tasks (plumbing, electrical, joinery, and basic building works)
- Ensure the premises are safe, secure, and well-maintained at all times
- Conduct and record routine health & safety checks (fire alarms, emergency lighting, water temperatures, fire equipment, etc.)
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs and ensure follow-up actions are completed
- Support external contractors on site, ensuring work meets safety and quality standards
- Manage deliveries and provide occasional courier duties (mail, supplies, prescriptions)
- Maintain outdoor areas including grounds upkeep, waste management, and seasonal duties (e.g., gritting, gardening)
- Respond promptly to urgent maintenance issues, including participation in an on-call rota if required
- Uphold safe working practices and comply with all relevant policies (H&S, COSHH, safeguarding)
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience in a caretaking, maintenance, or facilities role (preferred)
- Strong practical skills across general maintenance and DIY
- Good understanding of health & safety and compliance requirements
- Organised with the ability to manage tasks and record-keeping effectively
- A positive, can-do attitude with strong teamwork and communication skills
- Full driving licence (essential due to location and duties)
