Salary: Β£28,579.47 per annum

Hours: 35 hours per week

Working Hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 8:45am to 4:45pm (50-minute lunch break)
  • Friday: 8:45am to 3:55pm (50-minute lunch break)

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, organised and customer-focused Cemeteries Assistant to support the day-to-day administration of cemetery services. This role is responsible for coordinating burial bookings, maintaining cemetery and memorial records, responding to public enquiries, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.

Working closely with operational teams, funeral directors, elected members and members of the public, you will play a key role in ensuring cemetery services are delivered professionally, accurately and sensitively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer burial bookings and cemetery records.
  • Maintain memorial safety records and statutory documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with the Burial and Cremation (Scotland) Act and related regulations.
  • Respond to enquiries and complaints from the public and elected members.
  • Coordinate funeral arrangements with operational staff and undertakers.
  • Maintain and update the cemetery management system.
  • Support data management, reporting and Freedom of Information requests.
  • Provide general administrative and clerical support to the service.

About You

The ideal candidate will have excellent administrative, organisational and customer service skills, together with the ability to communicate sensitively with bereaved families and members of the public.

Essential:

  • Proven experience working in a bereavement-related service, such as cemeteries, crematoria, funeral services, registrar services, bereavement support, or a similar environment.
  • Strong administrative and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy, professionalism and discretion.
  • Excellent communication and IT skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
