Business Support Officer required!
Salary: £14.20 per hour
Location: Bristol
Hours: Monday - Friday 8.30am - 5pm Till Feb 2026 (with possibility of extension)
Purpose of the job
Provides a range of business support functions to support internal and external customers. This may require service-specific skills and knowledge.
Key job outcomes/accountabilities
- Provide a range of business support services for one or more service areas, taking ownership and responsibility.
- Make real time service decisions in response to operational issues in line with local procedures and established guidance.
- Demonstrate the council's values: Dedicated, Respect, Ownership, Curious, Collaborative.
- Carry out specific administrative tasks requiring a discrete skill or in-depth knowledge base.
- Respond to enquiries from internal and external customers and stakeholders including escalated issues, resolving at the point of contact where possible.
- To carry out, monitor and reconcile financial transactions.
- Prepare and provide documentation and information.
- Check service delivery and processes are in line with local guidance and legislation.
- To own and drive forward process improvements.
The role requires confidence and experience with Office 365 software such as Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook. A typical day may require the successful applicant to juggle a number of work areas prioritising the day's work based on service need. Full training will be provided on the dedicated systems used to support these services. Good timekeeping and an ability to follow agreed processes and problem solve are essential.
This is a hybrid role and will initially require the successful applicant to attend City Hall to train and onboard. A blend of homeworking and office working is possible after the initial induction and training.
As the role requires some office working we welcome applications from candidates based in Bristol or close to Bristol that can commute to City Hall based in the City Centre on request.
