We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Foundation Learning Support Assistants to join our client's team in Newbury, Berkshire. In this role, you will support learners with a wide range of severe to moderate learning difficulties, including profound and multiple learning difficulties, autism spectrum conditions, challenging behaviour, and other additional needs. You will work closely with Tutors, Room Leaders and Team Leaders to provide both 1:1 and group support, helping learners to access education, develop independence and achieve their targets. This is a temporary, but on-going role with potential to go permanent. There are part time and full time opportunities available.
Hours: 08:50 - 15:10 Mon-Fri
Key Responsibilities:
- Support learners in line with Care and Behavioral Support Plans.
- Assist individuals with complex needs, demonstrating emotional resilience.
- Administer medication following medical instructions and college procedures (full training provided).
- Provide support throughout the day, including assistance with eating, drinking and personal care.
- Support students with physiotherapy programmes and hydrotherapy where appropriate.
- Contribute to lessons by differentiating activities under teacher guidance.
- Support with classroom setup, resources and maintaining smooth daily operations.
- Participate in creating and maintaining targets within Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Work with external specialists such as SaLT, Physio and OT and implement their plans.
- Maintain accurate learner records for audit purposes.
- Follow all college policies including Safeguarding, Health & Safety and Equality of Opportunity.
- Attend meetings, training and contribute to college events such as Open Days.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Level 2 English and Maths.
- Experience supporting young people with additional needs in daily life.
- Strong communication and attention to detail.
- Empathic, patient, trustworthy and a team player.
- Ability to adapt practice to individual needs.
Desirable:
- Level 2 Health & Social Care, Manual Handling, Care Certificate or Positive Behavior Support training.
- Experience in healthcare, social care, domiciliary care or childcare.
- Functional IT Level 2.
- Ability to work 1:1 with a learner effectively.
- Full driving license, business insurance and access to a car.
