Job Opportunity: Waste & Recycling Operatives - Durham Council, Annfield Plain

Are you looking for active, hands‑on work that makes a real difference in your community? We’re hiring x6 Waste and Recycling Operatives to join our team supporting Durham Council. This is an ongoing opportunity with no set end date, offering flexibility and the potential to become permanent. The go live date for this role will be July 2026 when the new food waste service starts; however, there may be a chance to pick up the odd shift here and there before then.

Key Details

  • Location: DH9 7XW - must be able to get here for a 6:00 AM start
  • Working Days: Tuesday to Friday
  • Shift Length: Paid for 9.25 hours, even though most days finish around lunchtime
  • Pay Rate: Minimum £13.05 per hour
  • Pay Frequency: Weekly
  • Start Date: Induction on Thursday 21st May at 9am

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Collecting, sorting, and recycling materials such as glass, metal, paper, and plastics
  • Working across various settings including recycling sites and collection vehicles
  • Supporting both residential and commercial waste services
