The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Maintenance Engineer to join a busy and established food production environment in East Lothian. They are looking for a Maintenance Engineer to join their team in a varied mechanical and electrical maintenance position. This is a hands-on role offering a mix of planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, fault finding and continuous improvement activities across production equipment and site facilities. You will play a key role in ensuring machinery uptime and supporting the smooth operation of a fast-paced manufacturing site. The company is open to applications from both experienced Maintenance Engineers and individuals looking to start their engineering career. Whether you are a time-served engineer, recently qualified, or have completed a relevant engineering course, this could be an excellent opportunity to develop your skills within a supportive maintenance team.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on site equipment.
- Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical and electrical repairs.
- Respond to machine breakdowns and minimise downtime.
- Maintain buildings, machinery and production equipment to a high standard.
- Support external contractors undertaking specialist maintenance work.
- Assist with equipment installations and improvement projects.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
- Support production operations where required.
- Participate in emergency breakdown response when necessary.
About You
Essential
- Level 3 Engineering qualification (or equivalent).
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full UK driving licence and access to transport.
Desirable
- Mechanical and/or electrical maintenance experience.
- Previous maintenance engineering experience within manufacturing, food production, FMCG, packaging or similar environments.
- Apprenticeship-trained or recently qualified engineers are encouraged to apply.
- Multi-skilled maintenance experience.
Working Hours & Flexibility
This is primarily a Monday to Friday dayshift role, however flexibility is essential. The successful candidate must be willing to:
- Adjust start and finish times to meet business requirements.
- Support the operation during busy seasonal periods.
- Work additional hours when required.
- Take advantage of regular overtime opportunities paid at time and a quarter.
- Assist with occasional weekend working and emergency call-outs when operational needs demand it.
