Our client, based in Eastbourne, is seeking an experienced Accredited Clinical Coder to join their team on a full-time temporary basis, for up to three months. The successful candidate will be required to work on-site throughout the duration of the assignment.

We are seeking an experienced Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC) to deliver high-quality, accurate clinical coding and support team development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and abstract complex clinical information from patient records (inpatient and outpatient) to produce accurate, timely coded data using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications.
  • Maintain 90-95% coding accuracy and meet productivity targets (FCEs) in line with departmental standards.
  • Analyse complex cases, apply national coding standards, and raise queries where information is unclear.
  • Build strong working relationships with clinicians and actively promote clear documentation of diagnoses and procedures.
  • Mentor and supervise novice coders, providing coaching, training programmes, and preparation for ACC qualification.
  • Audit and quality-check coding work (including 100% review of trainee output), tracking performance and supporting continuous improvement.
  • Communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, explaining complex coding rules and policies.
  • Contribute to service delivery by ensuring coding deadlines are met to support Payment by Results (PbR) and data quality standards.
  • Support audits, policy development, and implementation of national and local coding guidance.
  • Stay up to date with NHS classifications standards, systems (e.g., EPR), and ongoing professional development requirements.

What We're Looking For:

  • ACC-qualified with extensive coding experience and strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, ICD-10, and OPCS-4.
  • Proven ability to manage workload independently while supporting team performance.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and mentoring skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards, continuous learning, and service improvement.

Minimum Criteria and Qualifications:

  • Good general education to GCSE level with Maths and English.
  • Relevant NVQ3 / A levels or equivalent.
  • To have obtained a Pass in the National Clinical Coding Qualification (ACC).
  • Have attended an NHS Classifications Service (NHSCS) foundation course.
  • Be able to provide evidence of attendance at a nationally approved Refresher Training Course within the last three years of employment.
  • Be able to provide evidence of attendance on nationally approved Specialty Workshops.
  • Evidence of continued professional development to degree level or equivalent level of knowledge and experience.
