Join us and help make autonomous operations the new standard.
About The Role
Invoices is BLP's largest product.
Every day, it decides whether a supplier invoice can be posted to the customer's ERP without a human touching it.
The invoice team builds and runs that product.
This is a leadership job with three parts that are equally important
- Build the team.
The team is growing fast and is distributed across Zurich and several European countries.
You hire, onboard, and grow engineers, and you develop the subteam leads who will carry more of the line management as we scale.
- Deliver for our biggest customers.
Some of the largest enterprises in Europe are rolling out BLP right now.
Their go-lives, automation rates, and escalations land on your desk, and you make sure the team delivers on what we promised.
- Turn the team into an empowered product team.
Today, a lot of work still arrives as requests through proxies.
You lead the shift toward a team that owns its problem space, defines outcomes, measures them, and decides what to build.
As Engineering Team Lead for Invoices, you lead the team that owns BLP's invoice product: You own the team's roadmap, delivery, people, and hiring.
This job is for you if you want to lead a strong engineering team through its next phase of growth and own the result.
You report to the Director of Product Engineering and work closely with the other product team leads, product management, and the go-to-market organization (project managers, customer success, and sales).
The team is organized in subteams, each with its own lead, and you are the person who keeps them aligned.
What You'll Do
- Lead and grow the team
- Run regular 1:1s, ensure growth of the engineers in your team, review progress, and make promotion and ranking decisions together with engineering leadership.
- Coach and develop subteam leads, and set up the subteam structure as the team grows.
- Keep a distributed team connected and productive: clear working agreements, transparent planning, and a culture where people raise problems early.
- Hire
- Own hiring for the team end to end: define the profiles, screen candidates, run interviews, review coding challenges, and close offers together with Talent Acquisition.
- Keep a high bar while hiring at pace (our current target is around two new engineers per month), and make sure every new joiner has an onboarding plan and a buddy.
- Own the roadmap and priorities
- Build the quarterly roadmap and run monthly planning with product owners and product management, prioritizing by customer impact, revenue, and strategic value.
- Balance enterprise go-lives, automation improvements, platform migration, developer experience, operations, and new products, and say no when something does not move the product forward.
- Escalate early and clearly when priorities conflict, and communicate decisions to the go-to-market organization.
- Deliver for strategic enterprise customers
- Take responsibility for the engineering side of large enterprise go-lives: requirements engineering, solution design, test and fix cycles, and go-live readiness.
- Work directly with project managers and, where needed, with customer stakeholders and their IT teams, and give clear, regular engineering updates.
- Close gaps in the product rather than per customer, so the next enterprise customer arrives on a platform that already handles their case.
- What You'll Bring
- You have led an engineering team of 8+ people for at least two years, ideally in B2B Saa S, and you have grown a team through hiring rather than only inheriting one.
- You have a strong backend engineering background and can still read, review, and discuss production code and system design with senior engineers.
- You have hired many engineers yourself, you know what a high bar looks like, and you can run a structured interview process.
- You have delivered complex software for enterprise customers, including demanding go-lives, and you are comfortable in a room with customer stakeholders.
- You prioritize ruthlessly, communicate trade-offs clearly, and can hold a position with engineers, sales, and executives while keeping the relationship.
- You develop people: you give direct feedback, set measurable goals, and help engineers grow into leads.
- You take ownership, surface problems early, ask for help when you are stuck, and hold your team to the same standard.
- You are fluent in English. German is a strong plus, since many of our customers and colleagues are in the DACH region.
- What You'll Get
- A real mandate. You own the invoice team end to end: people, hiring, roadmap, and delivery.
- Impact you can measure. Automation rates and go-lives on our largest accounts are directly visible to customers and to the business.
- A strong team. Engineers from serious academic and industry backgrounds who care about doing the work well, with subteam leads already in place.
- A smooth handover. The current team lead moves into a new role in engineering leadership and stays available to support your start.
- Room to grow. As a fast-growing, global AI company, BLP keeps creating new leadership opportunities.
