Bloxham School seeks an inspiring, knowledgeable and energetic Teacher of Drama to join a thriving department at an exciting moment in its development. Drama is taught with academic rigour from Year 7 through to A Level, and the successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the experience of pupils across this full age range. The Drama Department currently comprises two specialist teachers, supported by two Actors-in-Residence and one Performance Support Assistant. Teaching takes place across several spaces, including a dedicated Drama Studio equipped with lighting, sound and AV projection, enabling high-quality practical work and performance. Drama enjoys a prominent place in school life. We aim to cultivate confident, articulate and imaginative young people, and believe that opportunities to participate in drama beyond the classroom are fundamental to this mission. Each year we deliver a varied programme of productions, workshops and events that cater for pupils at every stage of the School.
Responsibilities
- Teach Drama across the full age range (Years 7–13)
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of an academically rigorous curriculum
- Play an active role in the School’s extensive co‑curricular and performance programme
- Support the development of high-quality productions and events
- Work collaboratively within a dynamic and supportive department
- Plan and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons that challenge and motivate students of all abilities
- Adapt teaching to meet diverse learning needs, using data to inform planning and intervention
- Create a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment
- Monitor and track pupil progress, providing timely and constructive feedback
- Maintain high expectations of behaviour in line with school policy
- Support a tutor group within a designated boarding house and contribute to evening boarding duties as required
- Participate in the co‑curricular programme, including productions, theatre trips, workshops, activities and events
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to share best practice and contribute to departmental development
- Engage fully in professional development and remain up to date with curriculum and pedagogical developments
- Contribute to a positive and supportive school culture
- Maintain regular and effective communication with students, parents and colleagues
Qualifications
- Hold a degree in Drama, Theatre Studies or a related discipline
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status
- Have experience teaching Drama across KS3, GCSE and A Level
- Demonstrate strong subject knowledge and a commitment to high academic standards
- Be confident using ICT to enhance teaching, learning and assessment
- Have excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Be able to plan and deliver lessons that inspire and engage students
- Be committed to supporting the academic and personal development of all pupils
- Have enthusiasm for co‑curricular drama and wider school involvement
Desirable Additional Experience
- Experience of directing or assisting with school productions
- Familiarity with Eduqas GCSE and/or AQA A Level specifications
- Experience of LAMDA delivery
- An interest in supporting students with lighting, sound and technical theatre

Working Arrangements
- Full Time Term Time Only/All year
- School day starts at 8.30am and finishes at 6pm Monday to Friday
- Academic lessons end at 3.30pm after which staff contribute to broader curricular activities, academic drop‑ins and pastoral meetings
- Saturday lessons are from 8.30am to 12.00pm
- All teachers are tutors; senior tutors carry out one evening duty per week in their boarding house from 6.45 to 10.00pm and junior tutors once a fortnight from 6pm to 9pm
- Start date: 1 September 2026
- Salary: Bloxham salary scale, dependent on experience
