Bloxham School is seeking an enthusiastic, committed and highly effective EAL Tutor to join our Learning Support Department. The role involves delivering high-quality English as an Additional Language (EAL) provision to students from a wide range of linguistic and cultural backgrounds and working collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral colleagues and parents to support students to achieve their academic potential and integrate successfully into school life.

Working Arrangements

  • 15 hours per fortnight spread over 5 days
  • On-site working, 34 weeks Term Time
  • Possibility of increased hours on an overtime basis after February half term
  • Start date: September 2026

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess English language proficiency of international students and develop individual learning programmes
  • Deliver high‑quality individual and small‑group EAL teaching
  • Monitor student progress, set targets and maintain accurate records
  • Prepare students for appropriate external English language qualifications
  • Work closely with teaching staff to develop effective classroom strategies supporting EAL learners
  • Produce resources that enable students to access the wider curriculum
  • Support the induction of new international students
  • Collaborate with the International Students' Coordinator and pastoral teams to monitor student wellbeing and academic progress
  • Share expertise with colleagues through training and advice to promote best practice across the school
  • Support the admissions process where required through initial language assessments of prospective students
  • Maintain safeguarding responsibilities, promote the welfare of children and young people, and comply with the school's Child Protection Policy

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent)
  • A recognised EAL qualification
  • Experience teaching EAL students within a secondary school setting
  • Excellent classroom practitioner
  • Ability to inspire and challenge students across a wide range of abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Collaborative approach with ability to work effectively as part of a wider team
  • Confident use of IT to enhance teaching and learning

Desirable

  • Experience preparing students for recognised English language qualifications
  • Experience contributing to staff training or developing classroom resources to support EAL learners
  • Experience within an independent or boarding school environment

Salary and Benefits

£8,413 per annum (full time equivalent of £28,043). Benefits: Holiday pay, Meals, Pension.
