The Source Control team is part of Developer Experience, the group responsible for Bloomberg's internal developer tooling. We own the company's GitHub Enterprise deployment, used by every engineer in the firm, as well as code search, change management governance, and developer integrations. We build and operate at enterprise scale: source control, code search and discovery, pull request workflows, policy enforcement, and integrations with the rest of the developer toolchain. These are the foundations for firm-wide work on AI, operational resilience, and software stability.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and grow a team of engineers: hire, coach, foster inclusive collaboration, and build a team that delivers effectively.
- Own the technical direction for our GitHub Enterprise platform, the future of code search, and our developer integrations.
- Ensure stability: SLOs/SLIs, capacity planning, backups, disaster recovery, incident response, and post‑mortems.
- Work with product managers, other platform teams, and stakeholders to improve how engineers work day‑to‑day.
- Manage our technical vendor relationships and engage with open‑source communities where it makes sense.
You’ll Need To Have
- Experience leading engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, and driving performance.
- Solid Linux/CLI skills and comfort with systems concepts (networking, storage, compute).
- Experience running services at enterprise scale, including making architecture decisions, managing risk, and building observability.
- A good understanding of the software development lifecycle and the tooling around it.
- Drive to engage directly with users, stakeholders, and vendors.
We’d Love To See
- Hands‑on experience with GitHub Enterprise, GitLab, Bitbucket, or similar platforms at scale.
- Familiarity with code search tools and search engines (e.g. Elasticsearch, Zoekt, Glean), including the language‑level concepts that underpin code intelligence (e.g. parsers, compilers, semantic indexing).
- Experience building AI integrations for developer tools, such as Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers.
- Understanding of operational resilience and regulatory/policy requirements around the SDLC, particularly in financial services.
- A track record of vendor engagement that delivered measurable business outcomes.
- Experience working in a large, regulated environment.
