Climate Data Steering Committee Secretariat Lead - Fixed Term Contract

About the Climate Data Steering Committee (CDSC)

The Climate Data Steering Committee was established in June 2022 by French President Emmanuel Macron and UN Special Envoy Michael Bloomberg to improve access to global climate transition data. The CDSC brings together leaders from various jurisdictions and international organizations to accelerate the development of high-quality climate data supporting the net-zero transition.

The CDSC has outlined a blueprint for creating a Net-Zero Data Public Utility (NZDPU), a global, open repository for climate transition data, accessible to all stakeholders to facilitate low- or zero-carbon investments. The committee oversees the development of the NZDPU and works to standardize and improve the availability of corporate-level climate data.

About the role

We seek an experienced Secretariat Lead to manage the CDSC\'s operations, reporting to the Managing Director. Responsibilities include governance management, policy work, and external engagement, in collaboration with the NZDPU team. The ideal candidate will develop and implement strategic initiatives, engage with external partners, and possess familiarity with climate data, disclosures, and technical data management. Experience from both public and private sectors, especially influencing international public policy, is valued.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Providing thought leadership on policy and technical issues related to climate transition data and disclosures at the international level.
  2. Managing governance and secretariat processes to align with CDSC priorities and strategic goals.
  3. Organizing and facilitating annual CDSC meetings, preparing materials, and communicating decisions.
  4. Supporting CDSC leadership with briefings, engagements, and governance matters.
  5. Building relationships across institutions, jurisdictions, and the wider climate data ecosystem.
  6. Representing the CDSC/NZDPU at international fora such as COP, G7, and G20.
  7. Overseeing a Secretariat Associate and collaborating closely with the NZDPU team.

Candidate profile and expectations:

  • 8-10 years of experience in public policy or private sector data roles, with a strong record of stakeholder engagement and thought leadership in financial sector policy, data, and disclosures.
  • Proven success in managing complex governance structures and multi-stakeholder initiatives with international participation.
  • Ability to plan and execute policy work supported by technical analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging diverse internal and external audiences.
  • Strong team management skills and a collaborative approach to advancing climate data initiatives.
