BloombergNEF (BNEF) is seeking an analyst to join our Europe research team in London. The role will focus on major themes shaping Europe’s energy transition across sectors and technologies, alongside ownership of research on selected priority markets.

BNEF is a strategic research provider covering global commodity markets and the transformative forces reshaping energy systems and infrastructure. Our experts assess the technological, economic and policy drivers that underpin the transition to a cleaner, more resilient energy economy. We help senior leaders in corporate strategy, finance, policy and commodity trading navigate change and generate opportunities.

BNEF Team Ethos

To succeed at BNEF we need people who can work in an independent manner and show initiative to develop their own viewpoints, yet be collaborative with colleagues. We don't rely on the status quo, we look for innovative yet pragmatic thinking that turns big ideas into real insights and impact. We need teams that are both dynamic and structured to generate the unique perspectives our clients really value. Our teams are diverse, creative, focused, and fun!

Our Team

You will be based in our London office, working as part of BloombergNEF’s Europe research team. The Europe team works across markets and technologies, moving quickly to answer the questions that matter most to our clients, and working closely with teams that specialize in a particular sector, technology or commodity. Our research combines regional analysis with detailed country-level work across power markets, clean energy technologies, policy, investment and the economics of the transition.

Our data-driven research helps clients decide where to invest or expand, understand how policy and market changes affect project economics, identify emerging opportunities and assess what could change their outlook.

The Role

You will produce original research on Europe’s energy transition, covering major regional themes and selected priority markets. The role combines independent research, responsibility for specific markets and cross-team collaboration. You will be expected to get up to speed quickly on unfamiliar topics, form a clear view from complex or fast-moving information and turn that into rigorous analysis. Your work will range from short, timely research pieces to datasets, models and longer-term outlooks.

Data and technology are increasingly central to how we work. You will be expected to work confidently with large and complex datasets and use coding, automation and generative AI to improve research workflows and develop new analytical approaches.

From early in your career, we will trust you to become a go-to expert within BNEF and with our clients for the markets and topics you cover. You will regularly brief senior decision-makers and policymakers, answer their questions and explain and defend your conclusions. You will also represent BNEF at events and build a deep industry network.

We Will Trust You To

  • Own BNEF’s coverage of selected priority European markets from day one, staying on top of developments and identifying the questions that matter.
  • Lead independent research projects from initial idea and data sourcing through analysis and publication.
  • Build and maintain datasets, models and analytical tools to produce rigorous research that supports decision-making.
  • Use coding, automation and AI to improve workflows and develop new analytical approaches.
  • Communicate your conclusions clearly to clients and colleagues, and represent BNEF externally as your expertise develops.

You’ll Need To Have

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, economics, finance, or another relevant quantitative discipline.
  • A strong interest in Europe’s energy transition and the forces that shape it.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership and get things done.
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, including advanced Excel capabilities and confidence working with large and complex datasets.
  • Strong written communication and data visualization skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to think critically, evaluate complex information and develop an independent view.
  • Demonstrated presentation and verbal communication skills, with the ability to quickly understand, distill and explain complex topics to specialist and non-specialist audiences.

We’d Love To See

  • Experience working in or analyzing power markets, energy policy, clean energy technologies or other relevant parts of the energy sector.
  • Experience building quantitative models, data pipelines or analytical tools from complex datasets.
  • Demonstrated ability to use generative AI, python and SQL to build and improve analytical or research workflows.
  • Fluency or strong working proficiency in at least one European language in addition to English; German language skills would be particularly valuable.
