We are looking for a tenacious, committed and experienced reporter to join our politics team in London. Based in Westminster, you\’ll cover Prime Minister Keir Starmer\’s administration and the intersection between policy, the economy and the markets.
You\’ll share the wider team\’s focus on the Labour Party\’s fiscal policies, its plan for growth and its response to challenges including Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and President Donald Trump. The successful candidate will have an existing network of high-level sources and a proven track record of breaking news that sets the agenda. You will work closely with teams from across the Bloomberg newsroom to reveal government decisions, explaining what they mean for the economy, markets and business.
Cutting through the noise, an ability to see the bigger picture and a thirst for scoops are essential. Ahead lie battles over taxes, financial regulation and Labour\’s efforts to keep the support of the business community. The ideal candidate will also be a strong writer and able to explain complex events in ways that grabs Bloomberg\’s sophisticated, busy and globally minded reader.
We\’ll expect you to contribute to platforms including podcasts, radio and television and our Readout and Balance of Power newsletters. It’s an intense beat in the London newsroom, and one that will give you the opportunity to produce exclusive work that the competition is forced to follow.
We\’ll trust you to:
- Develop sources and sniff out news at the highest levels of government
- Work with reporters and editors across the newsroom to deliver maximum impact for our readers
- Produce must-read features
You’ll need to have:
- A deep understanding of UK government and the intersection of politics, business and finance
- At least five years’ experience in political, financial or business journalism
- A proven track‑record of breaking news
- Ability to work calmly under deadline
