Bloomberg News is seeking an experienced reporter to join the Deals team in London. We're looking for an ambitious, self‑motivated journalist, with years of experience reporting on the corporate and financial world, who can break news on the biggest mergers and acquisitions as well as initial public offerings in the region.
Candidates should have a proven ability to develop sourcing and bring in scoops. We’re looking for someone who is calm under pressure in an exciting and competitive beat. You'll need to know the biggest players in the dealmaking world, with a wide network of contacts among the investment bankers, lawyers, private equity investors, government regulators and outside advisers that work on transactions. We'll depend on you to generate scoops, and write stories about why they matter, all the while collaborating with colleagues across the world. You'll also be expected to write longer‑form stories on the City of London and the deals community.
You'll need to prioritise accuracy and attention to detail, and have the ability to quickly expand your contact base as you seek to beat rivals to scoops. You should be a newshound by nature who thrives in high‑profile beat. Knowledge of financial markets is essential, as is the ability to handle sensitive information with confidential sources.
We'll trust you to:
- Build up a wide network of contacts to help you break the biggest M&A and IPO scoops
- Deliver accurate, market‑moving stories based on reliable sourcing
- Generate intriguing analysis and feature stories
- Work well in a team environment, collaborating with reporters across the deals team and other parts of the newsroom
- Use a variety of platforms including the terminal, web, television and magazines
You'll need to have:
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- At least five years' experience in business reporting, preferably covering M&A/IPOs
- Experience in a real‑time news environment
- Strong work ethic and ability to work calmly under pressure
- Good writing skills, with a particular focus on precision and speed
- A collaborative spirit and the drive to innovate and experiment
