From inventing letterbox flowers to founding The Thoughtful Marketing Movement. We are Europe’s largest direct to consumer flower company.

In January 2021 we announced our £75 million Series D funding round, led by General Catalyst, alongside other top tier investors including Index Ventures. We are home to a family of 3 strong brands, Bloom & Wild, bloomon and Bergamotte, having acquired bloomon in April 2021 and Bergamotte in July 2021. Together, we are active in 8 countries.

We were named one of the 5 fastest growing tech companies in Europe and are alumni of Tech Nation’s Future Fifty. We were also one of the Sunday Times Top 100 Small Companies to Work For 2020. We really care about creating a diverse and inclusive team and we welcome people from all backgrounds, with different perspectives, ideas and experiences to work with us. In our team, everyone has the freedom to give their opinion, grow in their career and be part of a genuinely caring and inclusive team.

Our Technology team sits at the heart of our business, building and maintaining the solutions that power e-commerce, production, and fulfillment. Our platform uses technologies including Ruby and Rails and Python/React, backed by PostgreSQL, Fargate/ECS on AWS, and Cloud Run on GCP. It exposes APIs that are used by our multi-brand Angular webapp and our native iOS and Android mobile apps. We’re also looking at developing new domain-driven services & microservices where applicable.

Our Product Engineering team is organised into cross functional squads, each responsible for a business and architectural domain, supported by Platform and Data Engineering. You’ll join the Range squad, a cross-functional team within our Ops-Tech group. We focus on the internal systems that power range representation, product allocation, and stock management — a core domain of our business that directly influences what our customers see and receive. Our work connects closely with many other squads across Bloom & Wild, as we support the smooth flow of products from planning through to delivery.

Most of our team is based in the UK and works in a flexible model, with choice in how often they travel to the office. Our squads meet all in person at least once per quarter in order to maintain connections, collaborate on larger projects and have fun together.

What you’ll be doing…

  • As a mid-level engineer in our Range squad, you’ll help build and maintain the internal tools that power our warehouse operations — from bouquet assembly to order fulfilment across multiple countries.
  • Your day-to-day will include:
    • Working closely with our product manager, engineers, and stakeholders to understand real-world needs and translate them into working software.
    • Building and improving our internal tools using Ruby on Rails and related technologies.
    • Making iterative improvements to our monolith while contributing to the development of new features to support our rapidly expanding curated range of products.
    • Writing clear, tested, secure, maintainable code and participating in code reviews to ensure high-quality solutions.
    • Exploring new ideas and opportunities to improve our monolith and workflows.
    • Helping to shape our technical decisions by sharing your ideas and contributing to discussions about architecture, tooling, and best practices.
    • Contributing to technical discussions and helping ensure our solutions align with our technical strategy and business goals.
    • Collaborating with your squad to deliver work in small, valuable increments — using agile practices and modern tooling.
    • Monitoring, debugging and improving the performance of our systems with observability tools.

You’ll love this role if…

  • You are a Ruby developer (2+ years of experience) with good knowledge of Ruby on Rails in a production environment and are keen to keep growing your expertise.
  • You have experience working with RESTful APIs, version control tools such as GitHub, and testing tools like RSpec.
  • You’re curious about how things work — whether it’s diving into a new tool, exploring performance improvements, or figuring out how real-world problems translate into code.
  • You want to work in a kind, inclusive, and supportive environment where people care about their work and each other.

It would be great if...

  • You have experience working in a fast-growing (preferably consumer-facing) startup / scaleup.
  • You have experience of distributed service architectures, including how best to test and release them, and how to ensure system stability when making changes independent of other services.

  • Work Abroad for up to 30 days each year.
  • Share in our success with a choice to take equity options from day 1.
  • Enhanced family leave policy and a workplace nursery scheme.

  • 25 days’ holiday + your birthday.

How to prepare for a job interview at Bloom & Wild Group

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Bloom & Wild Group uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
