The Import Merchandiser is responsible for managing the end-to-end critical path for imported product, ensuring stock is delivered on time, in full, and in line with margin, quality, and commercial targets. Working closely with Product Design & Development, Supply Chain, and overseas suppliers, the role supports profitable trading and strong stock availability across digital channels.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the critical path from order placement through to delivery for all imported ranges.
- Ensure product is developed, costed, and delivered in line with agreed timelines and business expectations.
- Act as the main point of contact for overseas suppliers and factories.
- Track production progress and proactively resolve issues relating to delays, capacity, or quality.
- Negotiate delivery dates and support cost price discussions where required.
- Plan and manage intake schedules to ensure optimal stock flow and availability.
- Work closely with Supply Chain and Freight partners to manage shipping, customs clearance, and final delivery.
- Monitor stock levels, identifying risks of overstock or shortage and recommending appropriate actions.
- Maintain accurate order information, including cost prices, margins, and delivery dates.
- Support margin targets through cost control and by working cross-functionally to minimise air freight usage.
- Assist with forecasting, sales analysis, and post-season reviews to inform future ranges.
- Work closely with Management, Design, Supply Chain, and Finance teams.
- Support problem-solving across the supply chain to protect trading performance.
- Ensure all systems are kept up to date with accurate product and order data.
- Previous experience as an Import Merchandiser, Merchandising Assistant, or Freight / Logistics Coordinator within a UK retail environment.
- Strong understanding of critical path management for imported product.
- Experience working with overseas suppliers and factories.
- Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Commercial awareness with a solid understanding of margin and stock management.
- Confident user of Excel and ERP systems.
- Experience within fashion, lifestyle, or athleisurewear retail.
- Knowledge of freight, shipping terms (Incoterms), and customs processes.
- Experience working within a fast-paced or founder-led or celebrity-backed retail business.
- Proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
