Salisbury Country Club is seeking a motivated and experienced Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to step into the role of Golf Course Superintendent. Reporting directly to James Nick, Director of Golf Courses and Grounds, this position offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious turf professional to advance their career while leading the maintenance operations of Salisbury's 27-hole championship course and practice facilities.
The successful candidate will join a progressive leadership team, oversee a talented and dedicated staff, and play a key role in delivering the superior golf experience that reflects Salisbury Country Club's longstanding tradition of excellence.

The club is located in Midlothian, Virginia, a thriving suburb just southwest of Richmond. The area offers an ideal balance of accessibility and quality of life, with a strong restaurant and retail scene along the Midlothian Turnpike corridor. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate proximity to the James River, Pocahontas State Park, and numerous trails. - Total Staff: 14 full-time, 4 seasonal full-time, 6 summer seasonal (24 in-season)
- Team's Typical Work Schedule:
- In season: Mon 6:00 AM–4:00 PM; Tues–Thurs 6:00 AM–2:30 PM; Fri 6:00 AM–11:30 AM; weekend rotation
- Off season: Mon–Thurs 7:00 AM–3:00 PM; Fri 7:00 AM–12:00 PM

Initial Priorities of Position:
- Build strong relationships with staff, members, and fellow managers to understand club culture
- Evaluate course conditions and identify key agronomic and operational priorities
- Review training and performance records to assess team strengths and growth opportunities
Key Responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills, and Aptitude:
- Oversee daily maintenance and management of the 27-hole golf course and practice areas
- Supervise, train, and motivate maintenance staff to ensure quality, efficiency, and safety
- Plan and execute agronomic programs including mowing, irrigation, fertility, and pest management
- Monitor turf health, soil conditions, and moisture levels to optimize course playability
- Maintain and schedule irrigation systems and ensure water‐use efficiency
- Assist in developing and managing budgets, controlling costs, and maintaining accurate records
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety procedures
- Coordinate with golf operations and club management to communicate maintenance activities
- Support and participate in club sustainability initiatives
- Actively lead by example on the course, promoting professionalism and teamwork
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4–7 years of relevant turf management experience
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in turfgrass management, agronomy, or related field (preferred)
- Virginia Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
- Valid driver’s license; CPR/First Aid certification (training provided if necessary)
- Strong understanding of agronomic principles for warm‐ and cool‐season turf management
Salary: $75,000 – $90,000 (commensurate with experience)
