Blockchain is connecting the world to the future of finance. As the most trusted and fastest-growing global crypto company, it helps millions of people worldwide safely access cryptocurrency. Since its inception in 2011, Blockchain has earned the trust of over 90 million wallet holders and more than 40 million verified users, facilitating over $1 trillion in crypto transactions.
As an Engineering Manager on our Cryptocurrency Trading Platform, you will lead a team of back-end engineers and partner closely with traders, quantitative analysts (quants), product, and operations to deliver our internal crypto Order Management System, algorithmic trading strategies, and analytics platforms. You will be accountable for the end-to-end delivery of cross-functional projects — translating business and trading priorities into clear roadmaps, unblocking your team, and ensuring we ship reliable, scalable systems on time. This is a high-impact role for an experienced engineering leader who is energized by the pace of digital asset markets and wants to build a culture of technical excellence in a fast-moving, international environment. The role is based in London.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- People Leadership & Growth: Manage, coach, and grow a team of back-end engineers, including setting expectations, running performance reviews, and supporting career development, while actively recruiting new talent.
- Project & Delivery Ownership: Lead the planning, execution, and end-to-end delivery of cross-functional projects across trading, quant, and product teams. This includes owning roadmaps, risk management, prioritization, and communicating status to stakeholders.
- Technical Strategy & Excellence: Partner with quants and traders to define engineering roadmaps for core trading systems (OMS, algorithmic trading, analytics). Drive architecture reviews (Rust/Python) and champion best practices in software engineering (code quality, testing, observability) for high-availability crypto markets.
- Operational Improvement & Alignment: Continuously improve team development processes, on-call practices, and incident response to maintain stability. Remove blockers, resolve conflicts, and champion the adoption of AI coding assistants to increase team productivity.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
- Proven EM or Tech Lead experience delivering complex projects in trading or performance-critical domains.
- History of hiring, mentoring, and scaling high-performing back-end engineering teams.
- Deep technical expertise in low-latency systems; proficiency in Rust or C++, and Python is preferred for architectural guidance.
- Strong understanding of crypto markets, trading systems (OMS, connectivity, risk), and the ability to balance commercial P&L needs with engineering trade-offs.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills to align engineering, trading, and leadership teams.
- Experience leveraging AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude) and driving their adoption within a team.
- Proficiency with SQL, large-scale data, and cloud deployments (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS).
- Pragmatic problem-solver with a bias for action and accountability in volatile market conditions.
COMPENSATION & PERKS
- Full-time salary based on experience and meaningful equity in an industry-leading company.
- This is a role based in our London office, with a mandatory in-office presence four days per week.
- Work from Anywhere Policy: You can work remotely from anywhere in the world for up to 20 days per year.
- Unlimited vacation policy; work hard and take time when you need it.
- Apple equipment.
- The opportunity to be a key player and build your career at a rapidly expanding, global technology company in an emerging field.
- Flexible work culture.
