They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.
The Role
Block is looking for an extraordinary communications professional to join our team. We’re responsible for protecting and advocating for Block’s brand globally through engagement with media, and partnering with our Public Policy team to help influence government and policy partners. Reporting to the Block EMEA Corporate Communications Lead, you will work with executives and teams across Block’s business teams in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and other foundational teams across the region. You will also specifically support Block’s and its brands in the European region and work to tell stories across Block’s ecosystem. We ask that you have creativity, the ability to work with other teams, and to understand and communicate complex subject matter with ease.
You Will
- Support communications for Block EMEA, partnering with the Block EMEA communications lead, and team members in the Global Corporate Communications team.
- Protect the public reputation of Block and its brands in EMEA and provide sound corporate communications counsel on a range of sensitive topics that may include major announcements, mergers and acquisitions, and crisis management.
- Uncover stories, data, and other insights that can guide coverage and advance company narratives in the down-cycles between product launches or announcements.
- Maintain an executive corporate speaking calendar and manage speaking opportunities in EMEA for Block executives and for our partners.
- Manage ongoing media relations across EMEA to develop relationships with essential national business, financial and technology press in the market.
- Develop written materials, including company messaging and statements, press releases, government submissions, communications plans, FAQs, and other collateral.
- Be a partner with many teams across Block, including finance, investor relations, legal, product, marketing, and others.
You Have
- 6+ years communications and/or policy experience with a financial technology company or global publicly-traded company (this can be on in-house teams or as part of a consultancy).
- Experience managing a variety of comms scenarios, especially product and feature launches, proactive campaigns, and data storytelling.
- Media relations experience that’s driven coverage in national, local, business, tech, and vertical publications.
- Flex between working on projects solo and as part of a team.
- Affinity for building partnerships with company partners, including senior leadership.
- A desire to help further our mission of economic empowerment through impactful storytelling.
- Understand complex concepts and create essential messages that are consistent but tailored to multiple audiences.
- Spanish and/or French language.
