We’re working with a fast-growing fintech that’s focused on helping small businesses access funding in a faster, fairer, and more flexible way. The team is collaborative, ambitious, and genuinely cares about building something impactful. They’re London-based with an international footprint and big growth plans over the next 12–18 months.
The Role
This is a key, first-of-its-kind hire - someone to build and own the entire people function from the ground up. You’ll take full ownership of the employee lifecycle, from hiring through to development and retention, while putting in place the structures, processes, and culture needed to support a high-performing team as the business scales. It’s a great fit for someone who enjoys operating both strategically and hands-on, and who thrives in a fast-paced, build-from-scratch environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Hiring & Talent
- Own end-to-end recruitment across all functions
- Partner with leadership on hiring plans and workforce strategy
- Build scalable, high-quality hiring processes
- Develop strong pipelines across technical and commercial roles
- Onboarding & Development
- Design and deliver an effective onboarding experience
- Build performance frameworks (goals, reviews, progression)
- Support managers with coaching and team development
- People Ops
- Implement and manage HR systems and processes
- Oversee payroll, benefits, and documentation
- Ensure policies are compliant but practical
- Support a distributed, international team
- Culture & Performance
- Help shape and embed company culture
- Drive initiatives around performance, accountability, and engagement
- Support retention, wellbeing, and team experience
- Leadership Partnering
- Act as a trusted advisor to leadership
- Use data to inform decisions on hiring and org design
- Support team structure and performance conversations
What They’re Looking For
- 5+ years in People/Talent/HR, ideally in a startup or high-growth environment
- Strong end-to-end hiring experience
- Experience building performance and development frameworks
- Comfortable setting up people processes from scratch
- Good working knowledge of UK employment law
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Hands-on, pragmatic, and comfortable spinning multiple plates
Nice to Have
- Experience scaling teams internationally
- Background in fintech or regulated environments
- Experience working closely with founders or senior leadership
