Our client is building real-time intelligence from sensor data, no new hardware needed. Privacy-first, fast-growing, and with significant investment and new client pipeline.

They are looking for a Founding Engineer or Founding Product Engineer to join their team to work with the customers to identify what they actually need and then build the product and collaborate with the other technology teams to deliver. This role is suitable for a technologist who has worked in a start-up, with strong engineering capabilities, but can talk to non-technical humans without alienating them with technical jargon.

What you'll be doing:

  • Onsite with customers 1-2 days a week, figuring out what they actually need (not just what they say they need).
  • Building data pipelines, backend services, UI, sometimes hardware config. Python, Rust, TypeScript, Linux. Right tool for the job.

Requirements:

  • Strong backend engineering skills - Python/ React preferred.
  • Founding engineer or founding product engineer energy. You've built things from scratch and dealt with the mess that comes with it.
  • Can talk to non-technical people without losing them.
  • Has worked directly with customers.
  • STEM background from Russell Group or top university.

Nice to have:

  • PM or team lead experience.
  • ML/data science exposure.
  • React/TypeScript frontend, backend services.
  • Interested in working across cloud, bare metal, embedded, containers, GPU.

What is in it for you?

Early-stage, high-impact, genuinely good people doing genuinely good work. It's chaotic. It's not for everyone. But if you want real influence over how an engineering team gets built from the ground up, this is for you.

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Block MB uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines.
