Founding BE Engineer (Python, FastAPI)
Salary up to £85,000 + Equity
Location: London - 3 days a week
Early stage MedTech Startup, building tools that help design better, fairer, and more effective clinical trials. Their work sits at the intersection of data, science, and human decision-making, which have a direct impact on the future of patient care. You will be joining a small, mission-driven team, early in the journey and will have a direct impact on shaping the product and overall feel of the platform and usability.
Responsibilities:
- Design and build core back-end services in Python (FastAPI)
- Produce prototypes, including data ingestion pipelines, embedding workflows, and recommendation components
- Develop high-performance APIs supporting semantic search, clustering insights, and protocol-generation features
- Deploy, operate, and maintain cloud infrastructure on AWS (EC2, S3, RDS/Postgres, OpenSearch)
- Build robust, scalable ingestion pipelines for clinical and scientific data sources
- Shape and evolve data models spanning structured data, unstructured text, embeddings, and AI-driven systems
What we’re looking for:
- Around 5+ years of back-end engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a commercial environment
- Strong Python, with hands-on experience building and running production services
- Experience with modern web frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or equivalent
- Solid understanding of Postgres and relational data modelling (schemas, indexing, migrations)
- Practical AWS experience, including EC2, S3, IAM, and networking fundamentals
- Fluency with Docker and Docker Compose
