Overview

Working with: R&D TEAM

This role will contribute to the development of both new and existing products through our Research and Development team, taking concepts right through to New Product Integration and ultimately into production. This is a hands-on role, gaining real experience as part of a productive team, and working with other key teams in the business to deliver results.

Responsibilities

  • You support the R&D team by completing allocated projects that allow concepts and ideas to come to life.
  • You do this by utilising 3D Solid Works Modelling and producing 2D drawings to prove (or disprove) concepts and create prototypes using a combination of 3D printer models and supplementing these with your own innovative creations.
  • You follow the sketching, prototyping, testing, and refining process to ensure that the products we create are in line with required performance criteria, and supplement this with the record and analysis of test data using Excel and being able to present concise and clear results to the team.
  • You also input into Design Reviews with meaningful input and play your part in the continuous improvement by contributing where possible.
  • You develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, working with them to transfer accurate technical information and develop supporting documentation for project completion and handovers.
  • You are not confined to working with the R&D team; you also work with the wider team including quality, manufacturing and production by being hands-on to resolve engineering issues and problems completely and efficiently.
  • You work off your own initiative, but always with the support of the R&D team, to ensure that you maximise learning opportunities.
  • You can multitask and organise your work so that deadlines are met.
  • Your flexibility and co-operation is both expected and appreciated.

Qualifications

  • Studying Product Design Engineer or Technology with Design Engineering.
  • Ideally, you have an interest in working with innovative products, and an eye for detail and design is something that will greatly help you in this role.
  • You are not afraid to roll your sleeves up and work with the factory floor to identify and solve issues, but are equally happy to work away at your desk designing and modelling.
  • You are a team player, who is not afraid to ask questions and contribute to the product development process but can also be tasked with projects to work on alone.
  • You should have the ability to use Excel and know your way around Solid Works, and also be able to negotiate and work with 3D printers and practical parts.
