What does this role contribute to the company? BLOC are looking for a Mechanical Fitter Apprentice to join our team. You will be responsible for supporting the maintenance, installation, repair, and improvement of mechanical equipment across our factory and facilities. As our Mechanical Fitter Apprentice, you will develop practical and technical skills in mechanical fitting, maintenance engineering, fault finding, and health & safety procedures within a manufacturing environment.

Key Learning Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical machinery and equipment.
  • Learn to interpret engineering drawings, technical diagrams, and specifications.
  • Support planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities.
  • Assist in diagnosing mechanical faults and carrying out repairs.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment safely and correctly.
  • Participate in equipment testing, commissioning, and inspections.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and job documentation.
  • Follow company health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times.
  • Work alongside qualified engineers and technicians to develop practical engineering skills.
  • Attend college/training provider sessions and complete coursework and assessments on time.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and housekeeping activities within the factory.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Interest in mechanical engineering and maintenance.
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles and mechanical systems.
  • Good problem-solving and practical skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Willingness to learn and develop technical knowledge.

Qualifications & Entry Requirements:

  • 6 GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths at B Grade or above, English, and Science/Engineering subjects.
  • Eligibility to undertake an apprenticeship programme.
  • Highly motivated and team orientated.
  • Possess good communication skills.
