An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated, and enthusiastic nurse to join our Dermatology Service as aBand 7 Dermatology Surgical Clinical Nurse Specialist based at Bedford Hospital.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering and developing a high-quality dermatology surgical service, supporting patients through assessment, treatment, and follow-up care. Working autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will provide expert clinical care, undertake nurse-led clinics, support dermatological surgical procedures, and contribute to service improvement initiatives.

This role offers the opportunity to develop advanced clinical skills, lead nurse-led services, contribute to skin cancer pathways, and support service innovation within a progressive NHS organisation.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage and coordinate nurse-led dermatology clinics, including assessment, treatment, and follow-up appointments.
  • Undertake comprehensive patient assessments, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  • Support the diagnosis and management of patients with complex dermatological conditions.
  • Work closely with Consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure high standards of patient care.
  • Provide specialist wound management and post-operative follow-up.
  • Support patients through skin cancer pathways, ensuring excellent communication and continuity of care.

Job responsibilities

Adhere to Department of Health and NMC guidelines for practice requirements and standards, for example, safe handling, administration, storage and custody of medicinal products.

Adhere to Trust guidelines, policies and procedures.

Manage and coordinate nurse-led dermatology clinics, including assessment, treatment, and follow-up appointments.

Undertake comprehensive patient assessments, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.

Support the diagnosis and management of patients with complex dermatological conditions.

Work closely with Consultants and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure high standards of patient care.

Provide specialist wound management and post-operative follow-up.

Support patients through skin cancer pathways, ensuring excellent communication and continuity of care.

Deliver patient education and health promotion to improve outcomes and self-management

Person Specification

  • on the live NMC register part 1
  • has completed a relevant degree in Nursing Studies/Health Sciences
  • Have successfully taken or willing to undertake specialist practice or a specialist Dermatology course
  • oNon-Medical Nurse Prescriber (v300)
  • oAdvanced communication skills training.
  • oTeaching and Assessment qualification

Experience

  • oDemonstrable experience working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Specialist Practitioner, or senior nurse within a surgical setting.
  • oExperience of managing complex patient pathways and coordinating multidisciplinary care
  • oExperience providing specialist advice and support to patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • oExperience leading service improvement projects.
  • oExperience of research activities and implementing evidence-based practice.
  • oExperience of managing and supervising staff.

Knowledge

  • oAbility to independently manage a defined caseload.
  • oAbility to prioritise and coordinate patient care across acute and community settings
  • oCompetence in managing surgical patients throughout diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and follow-up.
  • oAdvanced clinical examination skills.
  • oExperience delivering specialist procedures relevant to the surgical specialty.
