Key Responsibilities

  • Work both independently and with the wider infrastructure team to support, sometimes at unsociable hours, a broad range of enterprise infrastructure.
  • Work with architecture team members to design resilient, secure and performant infrastructure solutions.
  • Assist in the resolution of incidents and problems, and own issues related to technology areas you specialise in.
  • At all times work professionally and to high standards, applying industry best practice and our own processes, defining them where they are absent.
  • Flexibility to travel occasionally to support projects, migrations etc across EMEA, USA and beyond.

Your Professional Experience and Skills

  • A minimum of five years infrastructure support and/or engineering experience, in at least some of the technologies in use at Blinx and/or our customers.
  • Numerate and literate. Able to articulate complex technical matters in simple terms.
  • Strong preference for documentation to solidify consensus and plans.
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes and strong understanding of change, problem and incident management.
  • Experience balancing time between BAU and project. Able to manage own workload.
  • Curious and investigative by nature, seeks opportunities to enhance platforms and environments.
  • Self-starter, able to identify, propose and implement improvement opportunities without prompting.
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools, ITSM, project management methodologies, document management systems, diagramming etc advantageous.
  • Successfully contributed to several infrastructure projects including refreshes, relocations, upgrades and greenfield deployments.

Technical experience

  • An (ideally extensive) understanding of networking principles, routing, switching, VLANs, subnetting, firewalls, Wi-Fi.
  • An (ideally extensive) understanding of hardware virtualisation (ideally VMWare ESX) and centralised storage (fibre channel ideally).
  • Infrastructure diagramming capability.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking principles, particularly Azure ExpressRoute.
  • Knowledge of at least one SD-WAN solution.
  • Good understanding of the Office 365 suite in particular Exchange online and hybrid Exchange integrations.
  • Competent Windows administrator covering Active Directory.
  • Excellent adherence to high documentation and record keeping, sharing knowledge with the rest of Blinx in an accessible and up-to-date state.

Nice to have technical competencies

  • Experience with Palo Alto and/or Fortinet firewalls & remote access solutions.
  • Advanced networking principles such as BGP, OSPF, STP and a certification in Cisco networking or Fortinet security.
  • HPE Aruba, Unifi and/or Cisco Meraki experience in substantial enterprise settings.
  • Hands-on experience deploying enterprise LAN and Wireless solutions, including security platforms.
  • Hands-on experience supporting and deploying enterprise scale VMWare clusters including HA/DRS and DR/backup solutions such as Veeam/CommVault etc.
  • Direct experience of brocade fibre channel switching, iSCSI and HPE storage.
  • Experience dealing with physical data centre infrastructure such as room-scale UPSs, fire suppression systems, HVAC and so on.
  • On prem/hybrid Exchange, some exposure to SQL/Oracle/Linux etc advantageous.
  • Experience of at least one infrastructure monitoring tool, including how to integrate network, virtualization, storage etc components.

Qualifications

  • CCNP preferred.
  • Fortinet NSE4 preferred.
  • Microsoft Certified Professional in at least one of Exchange, Azure or Active Directory preferred.
  • A post-high school (tertiary) qualification in Maths, English or Engineering preferred.
