Requirements
- 5+ years of product design experience with a strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end ownership of complex products — B2B experience is a plus, but not a deal-breaker.
- Mobile-first design expertise. You think natively in mobile patterns and understand the constraints and opportunities of designing for frontline, non-desk workers.
- Research-driven mindset. You’re comfortable planning and running user research, synthesising findings, and advocating for users in product discussions.
- Design tool proficiency. Expert in Figma (our primary tool) with strong prototyping skills. Sketch and Adobe XD experience also welcome.
- Communication skills. You can articulate design rationale to engineers, PMs, and stakeholders. You present work confidently and take feedback constructively.
- Squad-player mentality. You thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced squad environment and see product development as a team sport.
- Desirable: Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) — enough to have productive conversations with engineers.
- Desirable: Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design practices.
- Desirable: Experience working in a scaling startup environment where you’ve had to balance speed with quality.
- Desirable: Systems thinking — experience designing for complex workflows without losing sight of the end-user experience.
What the job involves
We’re looking for a Product Designer to join our Product & Engineering organisation, reporting to the VP of Product. You’ll be embedded in a cross-functional squad alongside a Product Manager and dedicated engineers, and you’ll also be part of the broader product design discipline, collaborating with other Product Designers on shared systems, patterns, and craft standards.
This isn’t a role where you’ll sit in a silo producing pixel-perfect mockups and tossing them over the wall. You’ll help shape product direction from discovery through delivery — talking to real users, prototyping ideas at speed, and crafting experiences that work beautifully whether that’s on a factory floor, a hospital ward, or behind a restaurant counter.
- End-to-End Product Design: Own the design process from early concept exploration through to detailed specs.
- User Research & Discovery: Get your hands dirty with research — running customer interviews, contextual inquiries, and usability testing to ground every design decision in real user needs.
- Design System Stewardship: Be a guardian and contributor to Blink’s design system, ensuring consistency across mobile and web while evolving components to meet the needs of new product areas.
- Squad Collaboration: Work as an embedded member of a development squad alongside engineers and product managers, participating in sprint ceremonies, design reviews, and daily decision-making.
- Cross-Platform Excellence: Design mobile-first experiences that work for frontline workers in challenging environments (low connectivity, shared devices, varied literacy levels) while also delivering polished desktop experiences for admins.
- Data-Informed Decisions: Use qualitative and quantitative data to validate your designs and iterate — making sure your work is not just beautiful, but effective.
