Engineering area manager - 36 hour week

Location – London Salary – £80,000 – £90,000

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our engineering team. Reporting directly into our Head of Technology, the Engineering Manager will lead a team of 6 software engineers, take ownership of technical delivery and work hand in hand with the Product team to make ideas happen.

Key Responsibilities
Lead, support, and develop a high-performing engineering team
Define and drive technical direction alongside our Technical Architect and Lead Developer
Ensure Clear accountability, role clarity and a strong team culture
Own and manage the engineering delivery process, working closely with the Product team
Translate product priorities into actional technical plans with clear timelines.
Proactively identify risks and remove blockers to keep teams moving forward
Champion engineering best practices including clean code, secure design, CI/CD, and test automation
Oversee infrastructure resilience, observability, and incident response processes
Act as the bridge between Product and Engineering teams.
Provide transparency on engineering progress, challenges, and decisions to senior stakeholders.

Key Skills/Experience
Proven experience in an engineering leadership role
Experience with PHP and Laravel
Deep technical expertise — comfortable diving into architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical decision making
Solid understanding of modern backend and hands on DevOps experience
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple initiatives.
A clear and effective communicator, able to engage both technical and non technical audiences
