About Us
We are Blind Veterans UK, a charity that helps vision-impaired ex-service people from every generation rebuild their lives regardless of how or when they lost their sight. Founded in 1915 by Sir Arthur Pearson to help the many veterans losing their sight after the First World War, we have supported those blinded in subsequent wars and military engagements, including the Second World War, and more recently, the conflicts in the Falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan.
We are currently seeking a Community Support Worker to join us on a fixed-term contract until 31st March 2027, working full-time, 35 hours per week. The role operates in a peripatetic capacity and will involve regular travel across South & West Wales with occasional travel into England to meet service and casework requirements.

The Role
As a Community Support Worker, you will be responsible for providing a member-led service to support individuals across South & West Wales and parts of England to thrive within their own communities. Optimising social inclusion, you will use a range of internal and external resources to help members meet their needs and reach their goals and aspirations while maximising independence and wellbeing. You will take a proactive and collaborative approach, undertaking comprehensive assessments for members, planning and delivering specialist interventions, and co-ordinating services as the main point of contact. All our teams have a shared responsibility for creating a highly positive and solution-focused working culture reflecting the organisational values, culture, and vision, whilst always keeping the member at the heart of everything we do.
About You
To be considered as a Community Support Worker, you will need:
- Experience of working with people with disabilities to maximise their independence and wellbeing
- Competence in the use of the Microsoft Office suite and other applications and systems used to organise, document, store and plan work
- Excellence in teamworking and collaboration
- Be engaging, proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously and make decisions
- Experience of delivering remote and face-to-face services
- Ability to prioritise a diverse range of tasks whilst remaining calm under pressure and meeting deadlines
- Willingness and ability to share knowledge, skills and experience and support others in their learning
- A relevant Level 4 qualification (at a minimum) or equivalent experience
