About Us

We are Blind Veterans UK, a charity that helps vision-impaired ex-service people from every generation rebuild their lives after their sight has been affected. Founded in 1915 by Sir Arthur Pearson to help the many veterans losing their sight during the First World War, we have over a century of experience providing the very best care and support. Since then, we’ve supported tens of thousands of vision-impaired veterans, helping them regain their independence and providing the tools, skills and confidence they need to lead fulfilling, active lives. We are one transformational team that believes every vision-impaired veteran should be able to lead the life they choose.

This is a meaningful opportunity for a confident trainer with knowledge of assistive or smart technology and the ability to explain complex information clearly to join our compassionate organisation. By building vision-impaired veterans' skills and confidence, you’ll enable them to overcome digital barriers, regain greater independence and take more control of everyday life. With home-based working and the chance to deliver support that creates lasting change, this is a flexible role where your knowledge can have a genuinely life-changing impact.

The Role

As a Technology Practitioner, you will empower blind and visually impaired veterans to overcome barriers to technology, promoting digital inclusion, independence and wellbeing. Working as part of the National Digital Inclusion Team, you will deliver solution-focused rehabilitation programmes that help members develop the skills and confidence to access technology and the internet. You will collaborate with colleagues across community and centre services to provide tailored support, maintain expertise in assistive technology and deliver high-quality, evidence-based interventions that improve everyday life.

  • Deliver between 50 and 60 rehabilitation programmes each year
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of assistive technology, software and applications
  • Provide digital inclusion support and awareness training to colleagues and volunteers
  • Carry out remote support and home visits where required
  • Attend national planning and professional development events

About You

To be considered as a Technology Practitioner, you will need:

  • A nationally recognised Training Qualification and/or practical experience of delivering training
  • Knowledge of Assistive and/or Smart Technology
  • An understanding of mobile phone systems and/or accessibility features
  • An understanding of assessing people's needs
  • Knowledge or willingness to undergo training relating to the field of vision impairment
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to verbally explain complex and abstract instructions clearly
  • Willingness to travel

The closing date for this role is 21st August 2026.

Webrecruit and Blind Veterans UK are equal opportunities employers, value diversity and are strongly committed to providing equal employment opportunities for all employees and all applicants for employment.
