A respected Groundworks contractor based near Totton, Hampshire, is searching for an Estimator to join the business. The company has been operating for over 20 years and has built up a strong reputation within the residential sector. They undertake major groundworks projects for developers, which include the construction of roads, sewers, deep drainage, enabling works, hard landscaping, foundations and infrastructure works.
The Role
Due to continued growth, the company is seeking an experienced Groundworks Estimator to join their commercial team. You will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive tenders for residential groundworks projects, from initial enquiry through to contract award.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing detailed tenders for residential groundworks and infrastructure projects
- Measuring and pricing from drawings, specifications and schedules
- Producing Bills of Quantities and take-offs
- Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations
- Assessing risks and opportunities within tender submissions
- Attending pre-tender and post-tender meetings where required
- Working closely with Directors, Commercial Managers and Quantity Surveyors
- Assisting with value engineering and cost planning
- Maintaining tender databases and historical cost data
Requirements
- Proven experience as an Estimator within groundworks or civil engineering
- Strong knowledge of residential groundworks (roads, sewers, drainage, earthworks, foundations)
- Ability to price projects from first principles
- Good understanding of construction drawings and specifications
- Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills
- Confident communicator, both written and verbal
- Proficient with Excel and estimating software
- Full UK driving licence
