Head of Construction - New Build Ferndown, Dorset Salary up to £90,000 + Car Allowance £5000 + Bonus + 25 Days Holiday + Pension Blaymires Recruitment is representing an established and highly respected building contractor based near Ferndown, Dorset, who is looking to appoint a Head of Construction. The company has been operating for over 20 years and has an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality fit-out and extension projects across the commercial, retail, hospitality and industrial sectors, with projects ranging in value from £1 million to £15 million. They are now looking to expand their commercial new build presence within the construction sector and are searching for a Head of Construction to lead and develop this department. This role would suit a senior construction professional who has a strong commercial new build background, such as an existing Head of Construction, Construction Director, Project Director, or experienced Contracts Manager who is looking to step up and lead and support the growth of the new build department within the business. The Role The Head of Construction will manage mobilisation through to completion and client handover, ensuring all works are delivered safely, on programme, and to the highest quality standards. Key Responsibilities of the Head of Construction * Lead mobilisation and delivery of multi-million-pound new build commercial projects post-design approval. * Develop detailed delivery programmes, budgets, and resource plans in line with client expectations. * Appoint and manage contractors, consultants, and supply chain partners, negotiating contracts and ensuring strong performance. * Oversee site logistics, temporary works, sequencing, and structural strengthening for complex projects. * Drive best practice in Health & Safety, Quality, and Regulatory Compliance (CDM 2015, Building Safety). * Arrange and attend pre-start meetings with Site Manager and client, taking account of client’s needs and expectations. * Work alongside the project QS to agree and place subcontract packages. * Keep track of progress and report on a regular basis to the Managing Director. Requirements of the Head of Construction * Proven track record delivering new build commercial projects. * Have a good understanding of all RIBA stages. * In-depth knowledge of JCT contracts, procurement, and project delivery. * Excellent understanding of UK Building Regulations, CDM 2015, and QA processes. * Commercially astute with strong leadership and communication skills. * Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the South. * Degree in Construction, Project Management or related discipline (Desirable). * Professional accreditation (MCIOB, MRICS, CEng) (Desirable).
