Blaymires Recruitment is representing an established and highly respected building contractor based near Ferndown, Dorset, who is looking to appoint a Construction Manager.

The company has been operating for over 15 years and has an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality fit-out and extension projects across the commercial, retail, hospitality and industrial sectors.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Construction Manager capable of taking day-to-day ownership of a complex £5m leisure transformation project.

The ideal candidate will be either a Contracts Manager or Project Manager who has experience in managing commercial projects ranging between £3M to £8M.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Construction Manager who enjoys being close to the detail of project delivery.

You will join a supportive and experienced team, with genuine scope to develop your career within the business over the long term.

The Initial Project

The successful candidate will lead the delivery of a £5m transformation programme on a live, operational leisure site. The project incorporates:

  • A 370 sq m extension providing a new 40-station gym and exercise studio.
  • Construction of a new full-size 3G football pitch.
  • Remodelling of the reception and community entrance.
  • Upgrades to the changing facilities.
  • Expansion of the car park to 83 spaces.
  • Multiple concurrent workstreams requiring careful phasing, coordination and stakeholder management.
  • The Candidate

You should be able to demonstrate

  • Approximately 8–15 years’ construction experience, including several years with direct responsibility for managing projects
  • A proven track record as the lead Construction Manager, Contracts Manager, Project Manager or Site Manager on projects valued at approximately £3m–£8m
  • Experience of refurbishment and new-build or extension projects
  • Experience of working on live or occupied sites
  • Previous leisure, sports, education, commercial fit-out or comparable project experience
  • Experience of taking projects through mobilisation, construction, commissioning, handover and close-out
  • Strong programme management and short-term planning capabilities
  • Confidence managing subcontractors and coordinating multiple trades
  • A sound understanding of procurement, design coordination and construction information
  • Good commercial awareness and the ability to work effectively with the project Quantity Surveyor
  • A proactive approach to resolving site issues and protecting the programme
  • A strong health and safety mindset
  • The ability to manage clients and stakeholders calmly and professionally
  • A collaborative, accountable and hands-on approach to project delivery
  • A genuine interest in joining the business for the long term and progressing with the company
