Actuation Systems Design Lead to join our dynamic, multidisciplinary R&D department.

The Role

As Actuation Systems Design Lead, you will clearly interpret our medical device requirements and be responsible for originating design solutions for our prosthetic and orthotic product portfolio

You will act as the design authority, you will develop complex actuation systems, overseeing digital simulations

  • Designing & implementing actuation systems directing architecture of hydraulic, electromechanical, valve & motor control solutions according to the technical requirements.
  • Understanding Top-Down design principles, using digital analysis tools with a strong appreciation of FEA, fatigue and predictive CFD modelling to accelerate iterative design.
  • Leading engineering activities from concept development through detailed design, validation, qualification, and certification.
  • Generating and evaluating detail engineering CAD geometry, demonstrating accurate design intends, simulating dynamic motion, limits/fits and accurately define methods of manufacture.
  • Liaising with Systems engineering and clinical partners to capture user requirements, executing work packages inside our product verification and validation procedures.
  • Producing fully representative engineering drawings (BS 8888) with complimentary GD&T and tolerance analysis techniques.
  • Originating and maintaining risk management documentation, (ISO 14971) collaborating at design and project review meetings, comfortable presenting technical data, with recommended actions.
  • Producing and maintaining technical documentation, in accordance with ISO
  • 13485, FDA and an excellent understanding of the MDR requirements
  • Analysing technical requirements, evaluate different approaches and support the selection of suitable technologies, materials and components.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineer or related field.
  • Proven experience operating within a CAD environment.
  • Extensive experience operating within an R&D or engineering environment.
  • Experience operating within a safety critical or highly regulated industry.
  • Extensive experience with hydraulic or electrohydraulic systems.
  • Experience in the application of GD&T principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills, comfortable operating in a fast-paced matrix organisation.
