Role Description

This is a full-time Family Lawyer role for a practitioner with 5+ years PQE, based in Marlow on a hybrid working pattern, combining office-based work with some flexibility to work from home.

The role involves managing a varied caseload of family law matters, including divorce, financial remedies, cohabitation issues, private children disputes, and related advisory work.

Day-to-day tasks include meeting clients, taking detailed instructions, drafting correspondence and court documents, negotiating settlements, and representing clients at hearings where appropriate.

The lawyer will work closely with colleagues across the firm, contribute to knowledge sharing, supervise or support junior team members where required, and ensure files are managed efficiently and in line with regulatory and firm standards.

The role also includes participating in business development, maintaining and building client relationships, and supporting the growth of the family department.

Qualifications

  • Qualified solicitor or legal executive with at least 5 years’ post-qualification experience (PQE) in family law, including divorce, financial remedies, and private children work.
  • Strong client-care capabilities, including clear communication, empathy in sensitive situations, and the ability to manage expectations and build long-term relationships.
  • Excellent advocacy, negotiation, and drafting skills, with confidence in preparing court documents, settlement proposals, and detailed legal advice.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant family law legislation, case law, and court procedures, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Proven ability to manage a busy caseload independently, prioritise effectively, and maintain accurate, compliant file management and billing records.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior lawyers or support staff, and working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commercial awareness and interest in contributing to business development, networking, and promoting the firm’s services in the local and wider market.
  • Comfort with hybrid working, strong organisational and time-management skills, and proficiency in using case management systems and standard IT tools.
