We are recruiting on behalf of a global FMCG food manufacturing group supplying major retail customers across the UK and internationally. The business specialises in fresh, value-added food products, where packaging is critical to food safety, shelf life, sustainability, and operational performance. This role is based at a central group hub in Cambridgeshire, supporting multiple manufacturing sites rather than operating as a single production facility.
The Packaging Technology Specialist will support packaging innovation, sustainability, and cost-out initiatives across the group. This is a hands-on, group-level role, working across multiple sites and functions to develop, test, and implement packaging solutions used on live production lines. You will collaborate closely with manufacturing, engineering, procurement, and external suppliers to ensure packaging solutions are fit for purpose, scalable, and aligned with customer and environmental requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Support the development and rollout of new packaging solutions at group level
- Lead and coordinate packaging trials and testing in live manufacturing environments
- Embed sustainability and customer requirements into packaging design and materials
- Maintain accurate technical data, specifications, and test results within group systems
- Work with packaging and machinery suppliers to deliver innovative, practical solutions
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the Group Packaging Strategy
- Support site cost-out programmes while protecting product quality and line performance
- Graduate calibre, with a degree or equivalent in a technical or engineering discipline
- Strong technical knowledge of food packaging formats and materials used in retail
- Experience in food manufacturing or FMCG environments, with confidence operating on factory floors
- Comfortable managing multiple projects across multiple sites
- Willing to travel regularly to support trials and implementations
- Creative, analytical, and detail-focused, with strong teamwork and stakeholder skills
- Group-level exposure with influence across multiple manufacturing sites
