A growing UK-based organisation is seeking an IT Technician to join its team at head office. This is a newly created role offering the opportunity for a motivated and capable individual to take ownership of IT operations and help shape the future direction of the organisation's IT and security environment.
The Role
Working closely with senior management, the IT Technician will play a key role in implementing and developing the company's IT and security policies. The successful candidate will not only implement agreed IT initiatives but will also be expected to provide ideas, challenge existing processes, and drive continuous improvement in IT capability, security, and resilience.
Key Objectives
- Work with the external IT support provider to maintain essential IT infrastructure, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, email systems, laptops, desktops, software, and hardware.
- Track, manage, and maintain hardware and software inventories.
- Document external IT systems and access control systems.
- Ensure the business IT infrastructure operates efficiently and makes best use of technological advancements.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and help evolve the company's IT and Security Policy in collaboration with senior management.
- Manage data and oversee back-up processes to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Develop, test, and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
- Monitor IT support requests handled by the external provider and ensure service quality.
- Communicate regularly with staff at all levels to support appropriate IT training and awareness.
Role Scope & Autonomy
- Autonomy: The role has a high level of autonomy, with decision-making responsibility increasing over time.
- Decision-making: The IT Technician will be expected to contribute ideas, recommend best practice, and provide direction, while communicating and reporting back to the IT team and senior management.
- Future development: This role is intended to grow into an IT Lead / IT Manager position for the right candidate.
Required Skills & Experience
- 2-3 years experience working with IT systems and data management.
- Knowledge of Microsoft technologies (e.g. Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange).
- PC hardware and enterprise IT environments.
- Virtual servers, data back-up, disaster recovery, and performance monitoring.
- Cyber security principles and best practice.
- A proactive, self-starting mindset with the ability to think independently and suggest improvements.
Due to the office location, use of your own transport is highly advised.
