Blair West have been retained to support One Utility Bill's search for a DevOps Engineer. This is a fantastic time to join a fast-growing and successful tech business that simplifies household bill management through a single, fixed monthly payment. The business has exceeded its growth targets and is expanding to meet growing demand. This DevOps role will sit within the development team, reporting to the Principal DevOps Engineer, and is a key appointment as the company continues its digital transformation. The opportunity:
- Re-architect and migrate systems to AWS using infrastructure-as-code and containerisation.
- Champion cloud-native practices to enhance scalability, reliability, and security across platforms.
- Collaborate closely with developers to support complex projects and improve non-functional requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to DevOps culture within the wider engineering team.
- Work across diverse projects including internal systems, customer-facing web apps, and public REST APIs.
- Improve CI/CD pipelines and tooling to increase software delivery performance.
- Support the rollout of monitoring tools and participate in performance troubleshooting.
- Work alongside a cross-functional team of developers and designers to shape the DevOps roadmap.
You’ll be the ideal candidate for this position if you have:
- 2-3 years of experience in a DevOps role or a strong engineering background transitioning into DevOps.
- Hands-on experience building production systems in AWS, preferably using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation or CDK.
- Solid programming experience in PHP, JavaScript, or Python.
- A strong grasp of Linux administration, containerization (Docker), and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI).
- Familiarity with database management, web servers (e.g., Nginx), and caching layers (e.g., Redis).
- A flexible approach to balancing performance, security, and reliability with delivery timelines.
- Knowledge of network fundamentals and protocol.
- A proactive attitude and the ability to collaborate closely with a development team.
- Experience or exposure to tools such as ECS, RDS, Lambda, ElastiCache, Ansible, or monitoring solutions like Datadog or Prometheus.
