An opportunity has arisen for the appointment of one full‑time Support Worker (Fixed term contract) in the Children’s Placement Team within the Social Services Department. This role will be designated to offer services to Special Guardians to both assist them in their caring role and assist the Courts in having a viable alternative to adoption and long‑term fostering.

Responsibilities:

  • Offer support, advice and guidance to Special Guardians within and outside of the Local Authority to enable them to care for vulnerable children and young people in line with Departmental Policies and national and regional guidance for Special Guardianship Orders.
  • Effectively manage a caseload, organise and facilitate support groups and training, and produce reports for a variety of audiences.
  • Advocate in pursuit of the service users’ best interests and represent Social Services in multi‑disciplinary settings.
  • Comply with all relevant County Borough Policies.
  • Comply with pre‑employment screening processes, including Disclosure of Criminal Records, Enhanced Disclosure and Child and Adult Barred List.

Qualifications:

  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent qualification in a relevant field.
  • Support Work experience in Children or Adults Services including placements, knowledge of current legislation, regulations and standards.
  • IT literacy, effective negotiating and problem‑solving skills, and knowledge of anti‑discriminatory practice.
  • Access to a vehicle for work purposes is a requirement.
  • Knowledge of the Approved Casual Car User Allowance pertaining to the role.
