A challenging opportunity has arisen in the Development Management Division of the Council’s Economy and Place Directorate. The Enforcement Officer post is one of two such positions in the division. The post holder would be required to respond to and investigate complaints received in relation to breaches of planning control across the Borough and be responsible for instigating any necessary enforcement action. The successful candidate will work as part of a small but enthusiastic team and will be required to contribute positively to the delivery of planning services in the Borough.
Responsibilities
- Receiving and investigating a wide range of complaints of alleged breaches of planning received by the Local Planning Authority
- Monitoring development sites for compliance with planning permissions
- Preparing reports for Planning Committee, and on occasion appearing in person at Committee to advise Members in relation to compliance/enforcement matters
- Preparing enforcement (and related) notices and liaising with colleagues in defending the Council at appeal and/or in subsequent court proceedings
- Advising a wide range of service users in respect of process and procedures on matters concerning planning law in particular queries relating to enforcement issues and procedures
Qualifications
- Good interpersonal skills
- Conversant in IT
- Experience in managing own workload
- Ability to deal with third parties in challenging and confrontational situations
- Full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes
