Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council’s Education Directorate is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Educational Psychologist to join our highly regarded Educational Psychology Service on a permanent basis from January 4th 2027 or as soon as possible after this date. Applicants should be fully qualified Educational Psychologists as recognised by the HCPC, or current 3rd year Trainee Educational Psychologists.
About the Role
The Educational Psychology Service works in schools and other settings to support children and young people. Our work is summarised by our three key messages as:
- Capacity building using evidence-based systemic approaches;
- Consultation with school staff and others to ’unstick’ barriers to learning;
- Working at an individual level, informed by psychological and therapeutic theories and practice.
The Service contributes to a wide range of local, regional and national initiatives, often on a multi-agency basis. We are a small, nurturing team in which everyone is encouraged to develop an area of special interest. Whether you are an experienced practitioner or a newly qualified Educational Psychologist, you will have the opportunity to apply psychology creatively and effectively to promote inclusion, wellbeing, learning, and positive outcomes for children, young people, families, and schools.

Blaenau Gwent is situated in south Wales, bordering the beautiful Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park. Excellent transport links via the A465, M4 and the railway network bring Cardiff, Newport and Swansea within easy reach.
This position requires a Professional Registration, please refer to the Person Specification for further details. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. A comprehensive pre-employment screening process will be undertaken which will include an Enhanced Disclosure with Child Barred List. Access to a vehicle for work purposes is a requirement of the role.
