Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council is looking to appoint an Assistant Educational Psychologist on a fixed term basis, asap, until the 31st August 2027. The Educational Psychology Service works in schools and other educational settings to support children and young people. We aim to help schools and parents/carers find a way of moving a situation forward when a problem has been identified. Our work is summarised by our three key messages as:

  • capacity building using evidence-based systemic approaches;
  • consultation with school staff and others to 'unstick' barriers to learning; and,
  • working at an individual level, informed by psychological and therapeutic theories and practice.

The Service contributes to a wide range of local, regional and national initiatives, often on a multi-agency basis.

In the role, you will work closely with our team on a variety of supervised tasks, such as

  • Working with schools to support wellbeing interventions.
  • Supporting children and young people's development through learning interventions.
  • Contributing to the creation and delivery of training packages.
  • Engaging in service evaluation and research activities that support evidence-based practice.

Applicants should possess an Honours degree in psychology, recognised by the British Psychological Society.
