Package: Fixed Term Position for 12 months

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Community Services Department as an Enforcement Warden actively promoting waste reduction, waste reuse, recycling and composting within Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council and taking appropriate enforcement action in relation to domestic waste and recycling offences.

With a commitment to delivering a high-quality service you will:

  • Identify recycling and non-recycling properties and make visits to residents to encourage better use of the waste services facilities available, advising and enforcing on the correct use of the services.
  • Physically sort waste to determine contents of residents' bins, bags or boxes.
  • Collect and record data and write concise and accurate reports for formal action following incidents.
  • Assist in preparing the Authority's cases for prosecution when required.
  • Attend community events and meetings to promote and provide information on the services, which will require occasional weekend and evening work.
  • Attend public meetings as required and provide Members with regular progress reports.

Requirements:

  • 5 GCSE qualifications at least Grade C or equivalent or hold relevant experience with a willingness to undertake a recognised waste management qualification.
  • Extensive experience in working with the public and delivering a public service.
  • Proven experience in using Microsoft Office particularly Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of services offered by waste services including Section 46 Environmental Protection Act 1990 Enforcement.
  • The ability to be confident and diplomatic when dealing with the public and others.

Appointment is subject to successful completion of passing a Blaenau Gwent Transport Section Driving Test. Thorough pre-employment screening is undertaken during the recruitment process.
