Role Overview: Blackwell Earth Moving is seeking a diligent Plant Inspector to ensure compliance with the EKFB plant specification and regulations. This role involves inspecting plant equipment, checking basic maintenance items, and ensuring all machinery is safe to operate and fully equipped to HS2/EKFB standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Inspections and Records:

  • Conduct PDI inspections on earthworks plant, including on and off hire records, taking photos, noting machine hours, and checking for existing damage and wear.
  • Perform PDI inspections on 4x4s, minibuses, and other site vehicles.
  • Apply plant identification stickers where required.

Safety and Maintenance Checks:

  • Check plant safety equipment, including flashing lights, all-round vision cameras, dash cameras, and reversing alarms.
  • Check and replenish lubes, grease pots, and other fluids.
  • Grease plant equipment and replenish grease pots as needed.
  • Conduct routine weekly checks of tyre conditions, GET, and undercarriage wear.

Support and Reporting:

  • Assist with problem diagnosis and report issues to the Plant desk.
  • Produce risk assessments and safe systems of work for all related activities.
  • Maintain stock control of all fluids and manage COSHH storage areas/workshop.
  • Assist OEM staff with locating machines and performing basic repairs, such as intra-service filter changes and bulb replacements.
  • Replace GET and cutting edges.
  • Issue Maintenance Permits to Work to OEM and other personnel as required.

About you

Essential:

  • CSCS Green Card.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Experience in maintaining heavy plant.
  • Plant maintenance qualifications (NVQ level 2).
  • CSCS Blue Skilled Worker card.
  • Physically fit and able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to write risk assessments and follow a safe system of work.

Desirable:

  • CPCS A68 card for Plant Mover.
  • Welding experience/qualification.
  • Detailed knowledge of Caterpillar, Volvo, and Bomag equipment.
